Web 2.0 tips and tools - del.icio.us

The #1 Top Tool for Learning is del.icio.us, a social bookmarking tool. But what exactly is del.icio.us, and what does it do?

Delicious is a free Web 2.0 tool which allows you to keep track of all your favourite websites online. Instead of adding a site to your 'Favourites' or 'Bookmarks' menu, you can use Delicious to store and access your bookmarks online from any computer. You can use tags (one-word descriptors) to organise and remember your bookmarks, which is a much more flexible system than folders, as each bookmark can have several tags assigned. For example, Dictionary.com could be tagged with dictionary, English, reference, language, word_study, and so forth. Then, it will appear in your list of tagged sites under each heading.

However, what sets Delicious apart from storing bookmarks on your local browser is its social bookmarking capabilities. This is useful in three ways:
# You can access your bookmarks from anywhere, no matter whether you're at home, at work, in a library, or on a friend's computer.
  1. You can share your bookmarks publicly, so your friends, coworkers, and other people can view them for reference, amusement, collaboration, or anything else. However, you can also mark bookmarks on del.icio.us asprivate, and only viewable by you (if you like).
  2. You can find other people on Delicious who have interesting bookmarks and add their own to your own collection. You can also see how many people have chosen to bookmark a link, and browse their own collections.
